Assistant Officer (Programme Management) in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health [Ref. R/207/25]

Duties:

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the department’s postgraduate programmes, including programme administration, database management and handling enquiries from students and academic staff, etc.;

  • Provide secretariat support to programme committees;

  • Handle promotion initiatives, including event and visit support, programme website, leaflets, social media platforms, etc.;

  • Coordinate scholarship and fellowship nomination exercises;

  • Support research-related activities;

  • Provide procurement and general office support; and

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements

5 passes in HKCEE/HKDSEE including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics with at least 2 years’ relevant experience, preferably in tertiary education sector.  Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); good organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and under pressure; being a good team player who is attentive to details and able to multi-task; and high proficiency in MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required.

IT Manager/Assistant IT Manager in Computing Services Centre [Ref. R/208/25]

The Computing Services Centre (CSC) at City University of Hong Kong manages the University’s Information Technology infrastructure and services covering Data Centre Operations, Cloud and System Hosting, Research Computing and High-Performance Computing, Communication and Networking, Workspace and Audio-Visual Technologies, and other related IT functions to support the University’s operations.

Duties:

  • Supervise a team of three professionals responsible for overseeing the system architecture and network security for Unix and Linux applications, ensuring high availability and resilience;

  • Propose new initiatives to streamline the support of Unix & Linux environments;

  • Determine the tasks that require automation and implement automated processes to minimise manual intervention;

  • Enhance the backup and restore strategy for Unix & Linux platforms;

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (such as Unix and Linux);

  • Analyse and resolve problems in a server farm (including Unix/Linux software, various virtualisation technologies, and Cloud platforms);

  • Customise and apply alert rules for the systems and applications monitoring tool;

  • Conduct system performance analysis and benchmarks for critical IT services;

  • Plan and schedule OS version upgrades for Unix and Linux virtual systems;

  • Identify and fix bugs during system patching across relevant computing infrastructure components;

  • Provide technical assistance and consultation on the use of Unix and Linux platforms for departments; and

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related disciplines, with at least 10 years’ post-qualification working experience;

  • Good knowledge of the Unix and Linux operating systems, SAN storage environments, file systems, and network protocols;

  • Solid understanding of networking and storage principles (including routing, subnets, TCP/IP, VLANs, secure NFS, etc.);

  • Proven experience in administering and supporting Oracle Linux, Solaris SPARC Unix, Oracle Virtual Manager cluster, Oracle DB, and Oracle Exadata systems, and Red Hat Linux and Hyperconverged Infrastructure such as Nutanix and VMware;

  • Hands-on experience in developing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using automation tools, such as Ansible, etc.;

  • Familiarity with configuring Unix and Linux security baselines using CIS benchmarks;

  • Effective management of multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a keen eye for details;

  • Willingness to communicate with users in different disciplines;

  • Proactive, eager to learn, and well-organised with a strong sense of responsibility;

  • Strong analytical, good interpersonal, and communication skills;

  • Adaptable to change, ability to work independently and as a team, and under pressure; and

  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua).

  • Preference will be given to candidates with Unix and Linux command shell skills and scripting languages.

Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant IT Manager.

Executive Officer I in the School of Energy and Environment [Ref. R/206/25]

Duties

The appointee will mainly be responsible for administering the postgraduate programme and research-related matters. Main duties include to:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of academic programmes covering student recruitment, admissions, student records, assessments and student matters related to taught postgraduate and research students;

  • Co-ordinate the proposals and developments of new MSc degree programmes;

  • Manage PhD degree and the joint PhD programmes with overseas universities (including arrangements for curriculum co-ordination, course scheduling and qualifying examination, thesis and oral examination for graduation);

  • Provide full support to committee servicing;

  • Manage research grant and various fellowship nomination submission processes and related reporting;

  • Manage RAE exercise and knowledge transfer activities and related reporting;

  • Organise activities for taught postgraduate and research students and alumni of the school; and

  • Perform any other duties or projects as assigned.

Working in evenings and on weekends may be required.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years’ relevant post-qualification working experience, preferably in the tertiary education sector. Strong proficiency in data processing computer skills (including MS Office, Excel and data management); excellent command of English and Chinese (including Putonghua); good organisational, problem-solving and communication skills with strong sense of responsibility and attention to details; and sense of self-motivation with the ability to take up new initiatives and work independently under tight deadlines are required. Prior work experience in postgraduate programme management would be an advantage.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
