Graduate Trainee – Buyer

Base salary 23-24K with up to 4 months’ performance bonus every year

Our Buying team is ultimately responsible for the products we sell. While most retail buyers only go out a few times a year, ours are always out saving amazing products at the verge of disposal. As an Purchasing Account Executive, you will be introduced to buying and given the chance to gain invaluable experience, analysing and identifying business trends while reporting directly to an experienced Purchasing Lead. After sufficient training, you will start using your negotiation skills to make buying decisions on the spot. This means you can stay very close to the business and be more flexible – as well as negotiate some fantastic deals. You will be an entrepreneur, have the responsibility and make a big impact. Responsibilities:

  • Constantly build relationships with existing suppliers by making calls and attending events

  • Optimize product assortments for trends and needs from customers

  • Negotiate with approximately 300+ vendors regularly in a tough but fair manner to maintain an efficient inventory level

  • Monitor purchase orders and follow up on vendor shipments

  • Gather competitive insights on pricing and product evaluation

  • Visit our stores to critique merchandise mix

  • Interface with all levels of management and communicate with multiple internal and external contacts on a routine basis

  • Prepare regular reports for management review

  • Investigate product complaints and propose remedial actions

Requirements:

  • Excellent command in both written and spoken English

  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship building skills with your styles

  • Proven record of strong negotiating skills, with examples to substantiate

  • Go-getter, with a "can-do attitude" and true excitement for the business

  • Strong team playing, clear communication, stress and time management skills are very important to be successful in our business

  • Creative, entrepreneurial-minded, with a strong comfort level with taking measurable risks

  • Strong analytical, strategic and planning skills

  • Prior retail or customer service experience is a plus
